KNOWLEDGE OF ASTHMA AND ITS MANAGEMENT AMONG PHYSICIANS IN KARACHI, PAKISTAN

Background: Asthma is a serious global health problem that affects people of all backgrounds and ages. Gaps in physician knowledge of asthma management, which can lead to suboptimal patient care.
Objective: To determine knowledge of asthma and its management among physicians in Karachi, Pakistan.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed through online survey in Karachi, Pakistan. The survey link was generated using Google Docs which disseminated into different social media platforms. A self-designed study questionnaire was used in this study. A survey link was kept inactivated when desired number of responses were received.
Results: Total 400 complete responses were received and analyzed. Majority respondents were females (54.5%) and working in private sector (70.3%). Knowledge of correct laboratory and instrumental criteria to diagnose asthma was correct among 37.9% physicians.
Conclusion: This study analyzed that knowledge was lacking in terms of asthma diagnosis and management. There is need for constant training and re-training of physicians in order to keep them up to date with international guidelines
